Investigators Uncover 150 Pounds of Drugs Hidden in Furniture

U.S. Marshals are asking for the public’s help to track down Jesus Munguia-Ramirez, a man accused of running a drug smuggling operation that involved shipping narcotics hidden inside furniture. Authorities say he has been on the run since being charged and failing to appear in court.

How the Investigation Unfolded

The case against Munguia-Ramirez began in November 2019 when officers from Milwaukee’s drug task force were called to a freight company on the city’s northwest side. A drug-sniffing dog alerted authorities to a suspicious wooden freight container. Inside, officers found a love seat, but what was inside the furniture was far more alarming.

“The dog had alerted to the container after opening it up,” said a U.S. Marshal working on the case. “It was like a sofa chair, and inside that chair was about 33 pounds of marijuana hidden in there.”

Days later, another freight container arrived at the same location, also addressed to Munguia-Ramirez. This time, authorities discovered an even larger quantity of drugs.

“In total, we’re talking about 153 pounds of marijuana, give or take, that was recovered,” the Marshal explained.

The Charges Against Munguia-Ramirez

Despite being charged, Munguia-Ramirez never showed up in court. Prosecutors believe he had been involved in the drug scheme for some time.

“During their investigation, they found that he had several containers and shipments he had been receiving and was also sending money back to California,” an investigator said.

Authorities believe Munguia-Ramirez has ties to the Madison area, Nevada, and California. He has a distinct tattoo of the Grim Reaper on his right forearm. Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing around 230 pounds, officials warn that he may still be involved in illegal activities.
