After his owner tied him to a bus pole and abandoned him at the intersection of Chambers Street and Bowen Street in Richmond, Virginia, you can only imagine how desperate a cute black Pit Bull mix felt.
The dog was shaking from the cold and fright on this frigid night.
He was unable to comprehend why the person he loved the most abandoned him.
The devastated dog, however, did not accept that he had been left behind. He waited for his owner to return and take him home while he stood by the side of the road.
Heroes Exist
The dog continued to gaze at the road, his teary eyes glimmering in the darkness. He grew more and more depressed as time went on.He began to lose hope that his owner would come back to get him.
Thankfully, a Good Samaritan saw the dog attached to the pole and called Richmond Animal Care and Control right away to request assistance.
Concerned that the dog would get hypothermic, the crew hurried to the site.
Outraged that the puppy had been abandoned in such terrible circumstances, the shelter posted a message for his owner on Facebook.
Last night, someone left their dog tethered to the bus line pole in the bitter cold. The shelter wrote on Facebook, “Do better.”
He was delighted that his horror was over when one of the shelter staff members untied the dog and took him up.
The dog was driven to the shelter by shelter employees. They looked after him and consoled him.
The Doggo Hopes For A New Beginning
Christie Chipps-Peters, director of Richmond Animal Care and Control, spoke about pet abandonment in an interview with NBC-affiliated station WWBT in September 2024, which led to the most recent rescue.
You should only use the shelter as a last resort. Chipps-Peters stated, “It’s stressful, we euthanize, and we don’t want your pet there.”
Pet owners who wish to find new homes for their animals should contact no-kill shelters or look into other options, such as friends and family. The owner’s final resort should be to turn the dogs over to overcrowded shelters and leave them in the care of animal control.
Fortunately, the Richmond puppy is doing well.
In an effort to track down his owner, the authorities are currently looking into the matter.
I’m hoping the dog will find a new home with a lot of love. He deserves to be the happiest puppy in the world and get over his sadness.
The Good Samaritan who saw the dog and called for assistance deserves a lot of praise. They saved a cute Pit Bull mix on time because they were polite and compassionate.
