Burlington, Vermont resident Robin Wagner and her partner spent a considerable amount of time searching unsuccessfully for the ideal dog.
Nevertheless, she knew right away that Blaze was the dog for her when she saw his adoption profile online.The first picture was one of affection.
They didn’t find out about his teeth until she took him home.
Many Unexpected Surprises
Before he returned home, we were unaware of the teeth. Robin told GeoBeats Animals, “That was a glorious surprise.”
However, the teeth were only the first of many surprising revelations.
They were informed when they got Blaze, a German Shepherd/Greyhound mix, that despite having sunken eyes, Blaze didn’t seem to have any vision problems.
They discovered that Blaze was truly totally blind in his right eye after taking him to a veterinary ophthalmologist, and that surgery was necessary to preserve what little vision he still had in his left eye.
They weren’t giving up on their beloved boy, even though this wasn’t a pleasant surprise.
Blaze just started walking into things when we were out for a walk about two weeks after the surgery. When I hurried him back to the ophthalmologist, I discovered that the surgery had failed and that Blaze’s left eye was not blind, according to Robin.
Blaze handled this significant transition with such grace, even though he was now totally blind.He discovered how to move around the world as trouble-free as possible.
His right eye was surgically removed because it kept getting infected. Blaze’s mother added, “I think I was more put off by the change than he was.”

It has taken them a long time to get Blaze well because of the numerous problems that keep coming up.
Blaze weighed just fifty pounds when they first got him, but they were able to raise him to eighty pounds.
They could now concentrate on his conduct after he was physically well.”To help Blaze feel a little less anxious about the world, we’re working very closely with a trainer,” Robin stated.
His confidence drastically declined after he went blind.Blaze started acting irritably and nervously.
They began talking to Blaze more in order to inform him and ease his fear because he is unable to see what is happening around him.
Although extremely difficult, the training procedure was also tremendously gratifying.
Satin, their cat, serves as Blaze’s guide cat as well!
To alert Blaze and prevent him from running into her and the furnishings, Satin meows and chirps.
She would meow whenever he was approaching her. Their mother told people that when she meowed, he would halt and reroute himself.
