Woman From California Tried To Save A Dog Lying Under Her Porch, But Then She Realized What It Was

Finding a completely unknown animal in one’s yard is not something that happens very often. Furthermore, if you are unable to identify the animal because of the state in which it was discovered, a total mystery is established.

This is precisely what happened to Sharon Betrozzi when she spotted what she believed to be an elderly, ailing dog under the porch of her Folsom, California home.

Sharon called City Folsom Animal Services right away for assistance because she didn’t want to do anything by herself.

When the officers showed up, she was prepared for a total surprise.

She Was Left In Shock

This animal had been lying still in that same spot for over four hours when the animal service personnel arrived.

Following a closer examination of this enigmatic species, the cops were unable to support Sharon’s assertion that the animal in her yard was a dog.

Sharon was unable to recover from the initial shock after they identified the animal.No, it was a very ill coyote, not a dog.

They didn’t have to wait because of the poor coyote’s condition; they acted right away to save it.

The City of Folsom Animal Services Facebook post states that during the examination, they discovered that this baby coyote had a severe case of mange.

They made the decision to take her to Gold Country Wildlife Rescue in Loomis, California, as a result. Prior to happening, though, they wished her luck and gave her the name Princess.

Determined To Help Her

As soon as Princess arrived at the GCWR premises, the staff realized that the unfortunate animal was in a very bad state. She had a lot of mange and was severely dehydrated.

However, as soon as the officers brought Princess, these kind folks got to work because they were determined to save her. They administered drugs for itching and sarcoptic mange, as well as rehydration fluids.

To assist her feel more at ease and to help get rid of some of the dead skin, she was given a bath. We were happy to see that she consumed all of the water and special diet food we had left for her overnight when we woke up the following morning. She began eating more and scratching less.GCWR’s board of directors president, Sallysue Stein, told The Dodo.

Following several days of intense care, Princess’s condition significantly improved, and her caregivers were reassured that she would recover.

After a few months, she began to gain weight and her skin became much clearer when they put her back on a normal diet. At last, her eyes had the appearance of a real coyote.

This courageous girl was soon prepared for a major return.

Back Where She Belongs

The staff at GCWR believed Princess was ready to go back into the wild, but they didn’t want to make that decision right away.

Rather, they moved her to Sierra Wildlife Rescue, where she could socialize with other coyotes and gradually acclimate to this wild environment once more.

Thankfully, Princess’s happiest moment arrived quickly, so she didn’t have to wait long. She was returned to the wild that day together with her other coyote buddies from the rescue.

Considering all that this poor coyote had endured, it was a sight that embodied liberation. And even though she was at last at home, she undoubtedly preserved the memories of those who had supported her during her journey.
