Seeing so many defenseless animals abandoned to fend for themselves on the streets is incredibly depressing. It is even more tragic, though, when people turn their heads at the sight of those wretched creatures and show no sympathy.
Thankfully, there are exceptions, such as kind people who are occasionally prepared to put their own lives in danger to save theirs. That is demonstrated daily by the good works of Whisker Woods Sanctuary founder and animal champion Shannon Mortlock.
After removing a wombat from the road one day, she proceeded to save more lives. But Shannon noticed two red objects on the road while she was driving.
She initially thought it was garbage, then she changed her mind and looked more closely. Shannon’s heart ached at the sight, but she quickly realized it wasn’t trash after all.
Poor Little Creature
When Shannon looked more closely from her car, she saw that there was an injured bird on the road instead of rubbish, and her bewildered companion was standing right next to her, helpless to assist her.
Despite being completely devastated by this sight, Shannon was able to gather herself fast and stepped out of the car to assist them.
According to Shannon’s interview with The Dodo, “there [were] so many trucks and cars on the highway that I panicked a little.”I hoped to reach them before they did.
Upon closer inspection, Shannon discovered that the birds were members of the crimson rosella species. Fortunately, she was able to assist the female bird, but regrettably, the mate fled as soon as she got close.
Shannon quickly carried the unfortunate bird to the car after holding her tenderly. The small animal was soon en route to safety.
Back Where She Belongs
Shannon made the decision to take care of the injured bird overnight until she recovered since she thought she might have had a concussion.
This bird’s condition quickly recovered the very next day, so Shannon no longer needed to look after her. To assess the bird’s capabilities, this woman started flying tests right away.
Shannon escorted her to a location where she could meet up with her partner after she was certain the bird could fly without any issues.
“You can see the rest in the video,” Shannon captioned the photo, “and I took them back to the tree where I saw their partner fly up into yesterday.”
This bird’s return to the wild, where she belonged, and her reunion with her partner made for the best conclusion possible.
