Hunts Point
Few people in Hunts Point make more than $23,000 a year, making it one of the poorest places in the country. Hunts Point is watched over by the 41st Precinct of the New York Police Department. In the past, there has been a lot of crime in the Hunts Point neighborhood.
It is one of the poorest areas of New York City and the United States. Even though there was more crime in the 1990s, there is still a lot of serious crime in Hunts Point. Hunts Point has a murder rate of 15.8 per 100,000 people, which is almost three times the American murder rate. The rate of attack is 2,112 per 100,000 people, which is very high. A lot of people are also trafficked for sex in Hunts Point, which worries city leaders.
Brownsville
This part of New York City is run by the 73rd Precinct of the NYPD. Brownsville has been called the murder capital of New York City in the past. Out of all 69 precincts in the city, the 73rd Precinct is the 69th best. In 2009, there were three killings for every 10,000 people living in Brownsville.
Crime rates have gone down over the last ten years, but they are still higher than normal. The rate of assault is 2,019 per 100,000 people, which is a lot higher than the national figure. It has a death rate of 9 per 100,000 people, which is a little higher than the national average.
Mott Haven
Mott Haven is run by the 40th Precinct of the New York Police Department. It has a history of being one of the most dangerous places to live in New York City. There were a lot of crimes in the 1990s. Luckily, crime has gone down over the last 30 years. Crime is still very high, which is a shame. For every 100,000 people who live in Mott Haven, there are 2,277 assaults. Also, 11 murders happen for every 100,000 people that live there, which is almost twice the national rate.
Midtown
The Empire State Building, the UN offices, Grand Central Terminal, and Rockefeller Center are just a few of the tourist spots in Midtown. There are two NYPD stations in Midtown. The 14th Precinct is in the south and the 18th Precinct is in the north. Midtown has more crime per person because fewer people are living there, and there are more crimes against tourists than in other parts of the city.
