It is one of the poorest areas of New York City and the United States. Even though there was more crime in the 1990s, there is still a lot of serious crime in Hunts Point. Hunts Point has a murder rate of 15.8 per 100,000 people, which is almost three times the American murder rate. The rate of attack is 2,112 per 100,000 people, which is very high. A lot of people are also trafficked for sex in Hunts Point, which worries city leaders.

Brownsville

This part of New York City is run by the 73rd Precinct of the NYPD. Brownsville has been called the murder capital of New York City in the past. Out of all 69 precincts in the city, the 73rd Precinct is the 69th best. In 2009, there were three killings for every 10,000 people living in Brownsville.
