An immigration officer from the federal government could go to jail after being found guilty of using his cellphone to take a picture of a flight attendant’s skirt while he was deporting an immigrant.

In Miami’s federal court on Wednesday, 48-year-old Billy Olvera was found guilty of interfering with a flight crew, a felony that can get you up to 20 years in jail. However, it is unlikely that the man from Laredo, Texas, would get that long of a sentence. In August, he will be sentenced, but for now he is free on trust.

On November 6, 2023, Olvera and the person he was deporting were on an American Airlines flight from Dallas to Miami. As the flight attendant walked past Olvera, she noticed that he held his cellphone up to the ceiling every time she did so, according to prosecutors.

She told a coworker, who then recorded him on video the next time the victim walked by. The pilot was then told, who then told the police. After the plane touched down in Miami, Olvera was arrested. He looked through his phone and found many pictures and videos of the victim, some of which were trying to shoot up her skirt.

“Mr. Olvera truly feels bad about what he did.” “Mr. Olvera feels very bad about what he did and asks everyone involved to forgive him,” his lawyer, Robert Malove, told The Associated Press on Friday. He said that there are no plans to appeal the decision.

Friday, an email was sent to immigration officials asking if Olvera is still working for ICE and if he has a history of bad behavior. They did not reply right away.
