Fall River man arrested on gun charges, accused of cutting GPS, held without bail after pleading not guilty
Following his arrest on gun-related allegations, a Fall River man entered a not guilty plea.
While on patrol in the Niagara area of the city on September 3rd, Vice Detective McGuire spotted a man he knew to be 26-year-old Keyante Mills, according to Det. Sgt. Moses Pereira.
Mills had an outstanding arrest warrant, which Det. McGuire and other members of the Vice, Gang, and Intelligence Unit knew about.
Before Mills was arrested, there was a brief foot pursuit as detectives started to approach him.
Officers found a bag that Mills allegedly threw away before fleeing from them after he was arrested. Detectives found a black Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun inside the bag.
Keyante Mills was charged with carrying a firearm without a permit, carrying a loaded firearm without a permit, possessing a large capacity firearm, receiving a firearm with a defaced serial number, and receiving stolen property in addition to the outstanding arrest warrant.
For offenses involving weapons, Mills had previously been freed on a GPS monitoring device, which he allegedly took off.
Mills was charged in Fall River Superior Court on October 31st.
He entered a not guilty plea to every allegation at his arraignment in that same court on Tuesday.
In anticipation of a dangerousness hearing on December 4th, Mills was ordered to be detained without bail.
