On Friday morning, a teenager from Fall River appeared in court.

Detectives from the Vice, Gang, and Intelligence Unit carried out a search warrant at a residence on the 100 block of Eighteenth Street on September 26th, according to Det. Sergeant Moses Pereira.

The 18-year-old Jovanni Rivera was the intended target of the search warrant. A loaded Sig Sauer p320 pistol was found by detectives when they were carrying out the search warrant. Rivera, who is not authorized to carry a firearm, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, possessing a large capacity firearm, and possessing ammunition without a government identification card.

Rivera was charged with possessing a high capacity weapon in Fall River Superior Court on November 7.

Rivera entered a not guilty plea at his arraignment in the same court on Friday morning. In order to await the outcome of a dangerousness hearing, Rivera was detained without bail.

In January, Rivera is expected to appear in court for a pre-trial meeting.
