The family of 26-year-old Justin Robinson, who was shot and killed by two Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers outside a McDonald’s on Marion Barry Avenue SE on September 1, has asked D.C. officials to release the body-worn camera footage of the incident.

Robinson, a violence interrupter for the Cure the Streets Program, was involved in the fatal encounter, prompting widespread public interest.

Initially, Robinson’s family had expressed concerns about the footage being redacted, but on Monday, their attorney, Brandon Burrell, announced they had changed their minds.

“We can confirm that the family is now requesting that the body camera video be released,” Burrell stated, adding that no further comments would be made until the footage is publicly available.
