Salem’s life was far from simple.
This was not the case for her, in contrast to many dogs that take pride in being the family’s favorite four-legged companion. After determining they no longer wanted her, Salem’s family abandoned her.
Uncertain of where she would live next, she wound up in rural Mississippi with her owner’s neighbor.
Thankfully, a rescue arrived.
The Shocking Truth
The neighbor called Happy Tails Canine Rescue, a Memphis, Tennessee-based group, because she wanted to give Salem the best life possible. It took the team just a few days to discover how truly sweet this stray puppy was, and they accepted her with great enthusiasm.
Salem was the ideal example of a pet. She was kind, kind, and a real friend. Applications began flooding in as a result of the rescue’s social media announcement that she was for adoption.
Before finding Salem the perfect family, the rescue waited until she was completely recovered. She needed many weeks of therapy for parasites, a wounded foot, and acute malnourishment when she arrived.
Salem was eventually taken in by a wonderful family. She quickly moved on from her past experiences and started a new phase of her life.
All of her costs, including the spay treatment her new owners were going to give her, were paid for by HTCR.Then there was a true surprise!
The veterinarian discovered during Salem’s inspection that she was past the safe point for spaying. She had gotten pregnant!
The rescue posted on Facebook that Salem was pregnant and probably due in a few days when the veterinarian came in to spay her.
Both the rescue and her owners were really taken aback! Not only were they unaware of Salem’s pregnancy, but this dog didn’t even seem to have a big belly!
Then Comes Another Surprise
Salem’s case was genuinely unexpected. However, until the puppies were large enough to be adopted, her family was more than willing to assist their new dog in nursing her brood.
Salem’s due date came a few days later. Then, however, they witnessed yet another startling revelation. Unbelievably, the veterinarian revealed the number of puppies she was expecting after doing an X-ray.
Salem was expecting just one dog! Yes, exactly. One enormous puppy!
To determine the puppy count, we requested an x-ray. Salem is expecting a single puppy! The rescue wrote, “One miracle puppy.”
Nobody had anticipated this extremely uncommon instance of a lone puppy. Everything became evident later when her parents chose to prove Salem’s true breed through a DNA test.
It turns out that Salem was not the supposed Aussie Shepherd/Border Collie hybrid. The Great Pyrenees made up 95% of her! Thus, the enormous puppy!
Despite the typical issues associated with singleton puppy syndrome, Salem’s baby was in wonderful health. The plump puppy, Astrid, was eager to experience all of the affection from her mother and her new family!
Salem and Astrid will be together for the time being. Until her child is strong enough to take on new experiences, the proud mother will continue to nurse.
According to the rescue, Salem and Astrid will both be spayed, and baby Astrid will be placed for adoption.
Furthermore, it’s possible that Salem has a lot more surprises in store for her family to come. You can never be certain!
