CybersecdnA U.S. district judge in Texas has rebuffed a legal challenge mounted by Republican-led states against a Biden administration policy facilitating the sponsorship of thousands of immigrants every month. Judge Drew Tipton, presiding over the case, dismissed the claims of injury brought forth by 21 states, led by Texas, citing a lack of substantiated evidence.

The contested policy, which permits the entry of up to 30,000 immigrants monthly, aims to provide sanctuary to asylum-seekers from regions grappling with socio-political unrest, including Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. Despite contentions from the plaintiff states regarding the financial burden imposed by the program on healthcare, education, and public safety services, Judge Tipton contended that they failed to demonstrate any tangible adverse impact.

In his ruling, Judge Tipton highlighted the paradoxical nature of the plaintiff states’ argument, noting that the program purportedly led to a reduction in their out-of-pocket expenditures. Furthermore, the judge refrained from addressing the challenge to the federal government’s authority to exercise parole, emphasizing the lack of merit in the argument presented.

Since its inception in 2022, the program has facilitated the admission of over 357,000 immigrants from the specified regions. Notably, statistics indicate a notable decline, up to 44%, in illegal immigration from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela following the implementation of the program.

To partake in the initiative, immigrants are required to submit online applications, possess a financial sponsor within the United States, and undergo a stringent vetting process. Successful applicants are granted a two-year stay along with authorization to seek employment.
