Massachusetts man accused of distributing tens of thousands of fentanyl pills in Massachusetts, New York sentenced; 50,000 pills, pill presses seized
Boston Today, a guy from Massachusetts received a sentence for distributing tens of thousands of pills that contained methamphetamine and fentanyl.
The Massachusetts Department of Justice reports that U.S. District Court Judge Richard G. Stearns sentenced Haverhill resident Angel Joel Diaz, a.k.a. Guero, 36, to nine years in prison.In April of 2024, Diaz entered a guilty plea to one count of distributing and possessing fentanyl, two counts of distributing and possessing 400 grams or more of fentanyl, and one count of possessing 400 grams or more of fentanyl, 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, and methadone with the intent to distribute.
An inquiry into Diaz’s production and sale of fentanyl pills started in January 2023. Diaz was called by an undercover agent who pretended to be a prospective narcotics buyer looking to purchase fake prescription medications that included fentanyl. Diaz gave the undercover cop 208 pills containing methamphetamine and fentanyl on January 11, 2023. Diaz informed the undercover agent that the fentanyl-containing pills were causing people in New York to pass out.
Diaz gave the undercover officer hundreds of fake prescription tablets that included suspected fentanyl on two separate occasions, on January 27, 2023, and February 7, 2023. After sending the undercover cop a picture of fentanyl pills on February 14, 2023, Diaz said, “Even making it with a mask makes you want to vomit and everything.”
Diaz was taken into custody on February 15, 2023, while in possession of a shopping bag that had 31,142 fentanyl pills divided among seven plastic bags. Two pill presses, hundreds of pills, fentanyl and methadone powder, stamps used to create fake pills, multiple masks, and chemicals needed to produce pills were found during a later search of Diaz’s Haverhill home.
Diaz was found in possession of over 6 kilograms of fentanyl-containing drugs, 381 grams of methamphetamine-containing drugs, and 81 grams of methadone-containing drugs. About fifty thousand fake tablets.
The statement was made today by Acting Special Agent in Charge Stephen Belleau of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New England Field Division and United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy. The Haverhill Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police were of invaluable service. The case was prosecuted by Samuel R. Feldman, an assistant U.S. attorney in the Narcotics & Money Laundering Unit.
