Massachusetts man pleads not guilty, held without bail in Fall River court concerning New Bedford murder
After being charged with killing a man in New Bedford, a guy from Massachusetts was detained without bail on Friday.
New Bedford Police were dispatched to the area outside of 1304 Acushnet Avenue at around 11:30 p.m. on October 3rd in response to a report of a male stabbing victim, according to Jennifer Sowa, Second Assistant District Attorney at the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
Following the altercation, Jesus Torres, 51, was taken to Saint Luke’s Hospital and subsequently declared dead.
Murder charges were brought against the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Lynn, Massachusetts resident Angel Avelino.
Avelino entered a not guilty plea at his arraignment in Fall River Superior Court on Friday morning.
He is expected to appear in court again on March 7.
Avelino had six pending cases in Lynn, including larceny and assault and violence, according to WJAR 10.
