When a watchful truck driver in St. Louis, Missouri, noticed a small, shaky puppy in distress, left in a ditch by the side of the road, he became an unanticipated hero.
Its life was saved in large part by the driver’s acute awareness of his surroundings and unwavering dedication to changing things.
Despite his inability to stop, the truck driver made sure to notify St. Louis’s Strand Rescue that a small dog was in dire need of assistance.
By reaching out and offering assistance to individuals who are unable to speak for themselves, we have the ability to significantly improve lives even in the course of our everyday activities.
A Call For Help
When the Good Samaritan saw the small brown and white puppy trembling in the ditch, he called for assistance, and Stray Rescue of St. Louis arrived quickly.
They went to investigate right away and were shocked to discover a tiny puppy, whom they named Odella (after the truck driver Odell, who called and finally saved her life).
The puppy’s tail started to wag as soon as she saw Donna Lochmann, the Chief Life Saving Officer of Stray Rescue of St. Louis.
She was a tiny angel who was both hungry and afraid, yet amiable.
They were unaware at the time that Odella was in a lot of agony due to her numerous injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
At first, we were unable to determine, but regrettably, our clinic told us that she had some serious injuries. The rescue posted on their blog that X-rays showed a broken foot and a dislocated hip.
This 6-month-old daughter required a lot of assistance, but Odell was able to provide her with the care she so desperately needed.
It aches our hearts to think of her trembling in that ditch by alone, in pain. The truck driver who somehow saw her and saved her life has our sincere gratitude. According to the rescue, her road to recovery starts today.
Odella s Healing Journey
Doctors had to apply a splint and snap Odella’s dislocated hip back into place in order to save her limb.
The rescue team and the medics were doing everything they could to keep the adorable baby’s limb.
Due to another femur fracture, her recovery took a bit longer than anticipated; nonetheless, she was thankfully in excellent health and able to run on all fours again after a few months.
During all of that, Odella remained with Donna, her foster mother.
Donna, who had already taken in a few rescues, fell deeply in love with Odella, a charming angel.
Odella was clearly determined to stay at Lochmann’s place from the time she arrived.
In a Facebook comment, Donna stated: “She simply never left.” After she entered and unpacked her stuff, that was about it!
With her mother and all of her furry siblings, Odella is finally content with her life.
She alternates between dogs to find one that would continue to play, and she has the happiest disposition! According to Donna, she adores her toys and peanut butter kongs.
And without Odell and his generosity, none of that would have been possible.
This adorable puppy went from lying in a ditch with shattered bones and no one to love her to having a loving family and living her best life after just one call.
