BROCKTONA Following his conviction on narcotics charges, a Brockton man was sentenced to state prison, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz.
Derek Depina, 31, was sentenced by Brockton Superior Court Judge Robert Gordon on Friday to six, two, to eight years in state prison, with two years of probation to follow. Depina had been asked to serve nine to ten years by the Commonwealth.
A jury found Depina guilty on one count of trafficking 10 grams or more of fentanyl and possessing cocaine, a class B substance, on December 12th, following a four-day trial.
Brockton Police carried out a search warrant at a home connected to Depina on January 3, 2022. When police carried out the search order, they discovered $647 and 12 grams of suspected fentanyl on Depina’s person. A bundle containing fifteen individually wrapped baggies of suspected crack cocaine was found during a car check. More than 400 grams of fentanyl were found during a check of the yard and residence. After being taken into custody, Depina was charged with the crimes.
Depina’s case, which was investigated by the Commonwealth Interstate Narcotics Enforcement Team, the Brockton Police Department, and the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Plymouth District Attorney’s Office, was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Sharon Thibeault.
