On Thursday, a court heard the case of a Fall River man who was wanted in connection with a murder in the city.

Tajon Saxon, 26, was arrested Thursday in Fall River Superior Court on charges of murder and firearms in connection with the May 13, 2023, homicide of 23-year-old Diamonte Odom in Fall River, according to Jennifer Sowa of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

Saxon was detained on the counts without being granted bail. He was accused with two counts of accessory to murder after the fact in relation to the double homicide of Jovaughn Mills and Miguel Sanjurjo in the Fall River in May 2021, and his bail was revoked. Saxon was also charged with Failure to Appear in the Fall River Superior Court today. In that instance, the court set bond at $25,000. The next date for all proceedings is January 13, 2025.

An intense manhunt was underway for Saxon, who had been on the loose for nearly a year. On Wednesday, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section found and captured him in the City of New Bedford.

Leads from Florida, South Carolina, and all throughout New England were still being pursued by Massachusetts State Police up and down the east coast. Following an address check by State and New Bedford Police, Saxon was found hiding in the bathroom of a third-floor apartment as a result of these investigative efforts. Saxon was safely taken into police custody and sent to the Dartmouth Barracks to be booked.

Fall River Police responded to several 911 reports about gunfire in the vicinity of 275 County Street on May 13, 2023, shortly before 10:45 p.m. When emergency personnel arrived, they found Odom with a gunshot wound to his face. In the early morning hours of May 14th, he was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and declared dead.

I want to express my gratitude to the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section for their tenacious efforts in tracking down and apprehending this defendant. For nearly a year, the defendant avoided the police. District Attorney Tom Quinn stated, “I am happy that the judicial process can now begin, as he faces serious charges.”

Massachusetts State Troopers assigned to the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, according to Massachusetts State Police Colonel Geoffrey Noble, “cooperate with our partners every day to pursue, locate, and apprehend individuals wanted for violent crimes that negatively impact quality of life.” I also want to thank the New Bedford and Fall River Police Departments for their crucial cooperation, which allowed the team to present this case to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office prosecutors.
