The Biden administration is coming under assault from Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York after the US vetoed a UN resolution urging a cease-fire in Gaza.

Last Monday, above an X post depicting the United States as the lone “no” vote opposing the resolution, the progressive “Squad” member commented, “Shameful”.

“The Biden [administration] can no longer reconcile their professed concern for Palestinians and human rights while also single-handedly vetoing the UN’s call for a ceasefire and sidestepping the entire US Congress to unconditionally back the indiscriminate bombing of Gaza,” she said.

When contacted by Fox News Digital on Monday, a U.S. official provided the following response to the congresswoman’s remarks: “The United States engaged in good faith on the resolution, despite a rushed process and lack of consultation by the resolution’s authors.” Almost all of our suggestions were disregarded.

On Friday, thirteen nations decided to support calls for an instant cease-fire and the liberation of all hostages in the confrontation between Israel and Hamas. The United Kingdom abstained while the United States voted no.

The United States’ deputy ambassador to the United Nations, Robert Wood, insisted that his country supported peace between Israel and the Palestinians but expressed disapproval of the resolution’s proposed method of achieving it.

“All it would do is keep Hamas where it is, allowing it to regroup and carry out its October 7 actions. Respected colleagues, a top Hamas official recently declared that the organization plans to replicate the heinous deeds of October 7, quotation, again, again, and again, unquote. Nevertheless, this resolution essentially states that Israel should put up with this and let the terror go unchecked, Wood stated on Friday. “Although the United States strongly supports a durable peace in which both Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace and security, we do not support this resolution’s call for an unsustainable cease-fire that will only plant the seeds for the next war.”

On October 7, militants from Hamas stormed southern Israel, killing almost 1,200 people, the majority of whom were defenseless civilians.

Israel has retaliated violently, launching rocket attacks on Gaza and deploying ground forces. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, which is controlled by Hamas, 18,000 Palestinians have died.

Israel’s punitive actions have created a rift between conventional liberals and progressive Democrats in the US who value Washington’s connection with Tel Aviv.

Ocasio-Coltez’s ally, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., received bipartisan criticism last month for remarks she made disparaging Israel.
