Following an incident in Bristol County, police detained a guy on several charges.

At before 1:30 a.m. on Friday, several Seekonk Police patrol units were sent to Motel 6 (821 Fall River Avenue) in response to a 911 hangup call, according to the police.

Officers eventually found a woman in one of the corridors who reported that a male suspect had beaten her with a gun. When officers noticed the incoming police units, they discovered that the subject had left the motel. Corey Soares, 37, was finally recognized as the suspect.

For additional inquiry, the Seekonk Police Detective Division was called in. An application for and approval of a search warrant for the motel room was made. Once the search warrant was carried out, detectives found a loaded Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun. After that, Taunton District Court issued an arrest warrant for Soares.

Ptlm. Dudley was on routine patrol at around 2:00 p.m. when he saw what he thought was the suspect enter Panera Bread (211 Highland Avenue). While inside the restaurant, Ptlm. Dudley interacted with the suspect, verified that he was, in fact, Soares, and brought him into jail without any additional problems.

Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Domestic A&B, Domestic Strangulation or Suffocation, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Firearm-armed Assault to Murder, Firearm Violation with Three Previous Violent/Drug Crimes, and Possession of Ammunition without a FID Card were among the charges brought against Soares, a resident of Punta Gorda, Florida.

When Soares first left the motel, he was driving a green 2001 Ford F150 pickup truck with the license plate 33EKYT. The car has not been found as of yet. Please call 508-336-8123 to reach the Seekonk Police Department if you know where this car is staying.
