An LAPD police car with the officer still inside was taken by a guy early on Sunday morning, sparking a chaotic and violent scene that resulted in a multi-vehicle pileup in downtown Los Angeles.
According to the police, the incident happened at 12th and Figueroa streets at around 3:30 in the morning while a female officer was on “security detail.”
“The suspect approached her at some point, got into her car, and drove off,” LAPD Lt. James Mylonakis said . After being “ejected” from the SUV, the officer hit the road.
The suspect drove quickly north on Figueroa Street, crashing into a pole after first crashing into at least two cars at the junction of 8th Street. Then, according to the police, he attempted to flee the scene but was swiftly captured.
A number of individuals, including the officer, were hurt, but none of them seemed to be in critical condition.
For several hours, the area around 8th and Figueroa was closed while police looked into the incident, questioned witnesses, and started to clear the debris and wreckage.
