Cybersecdn– Following a harrowing shooting incident in New York City’s Times Square earlier this week, the NYPD has confirmed the arrest of a 15-year-old suspect.
Jesus Alejandro Rivas Figueroa stands accused of perpetrating the shooting of a tourist in Times Square and firing shots at one of the police officers who responded to the scene. The arrest was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the U.S. Marshal Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Yonkers Police Department, and dedicated NYPD detectives.
Figueroa, a 15-year-old from Venezuela who arrived in the United States in September of last year, was apprehended by US Marshals in Yonkers, located just north of New York City.
The swift action by law enforcement is commendable, particularly considering the severity of the incident. Figueroa allegedly opened fire in Times Square, endangering the lives of innocent bystanders and law enforcement officers alike. Fortunately, no fatalities occurred, although a Brazilian tourist sustained injuries after being struck by a stray bullet. The victim received medical treatment and has since been discharged from the hospital.
Police reports suggest that Figueroa was part of a group of three teens caught stealing merchandise from a sporting apparel store in Times Square. When confronted by a security guard, Figueroa purportedly resorted to violence, firing a large-caliber handgun and narrowly missing the guard. The ensuing chaos resulted in the injury of the tourist and posed a significant threat to public safety.
